Milan Design Week 2025
BASE TIMES kawaguchi exhibited at Milano Design Week, one of the world’s largest furniture and design festivals, held in Milan, Italy, from April 7 (Mon) to April 13 (Sun), 2025. The exhibition presented an installation that combined refined and beautiful processing techniques rooted in exceptional craftsmanship and tradition with a wide range of expressive styles and a distinctly Japanese sense of nature. The chair series “Kawaguchi-air,” showcased within the historic setting of Palazzo Litta, visualized the technologies of each participating company while incorporating even the surrounding scenery into its design, attracting significant international attention. Throughout the exhibition, many visitors stopped to engage with the works, showing strong interest not only in the pieces themselves but also in the stories and backgrounds behind them. Since 2021, we have been hosting the "Kawaguchi Machikouba Art Festival", an art event together with the people of Kawaguchi. We have collaborated with designers, artists, and students, resulting in numerous compelling creations.
Metal, often perceived as hard and cold, is transformed into warm and enriching products through the passion of our team members. Their craftsmanship gives metal a new identity, shaping it into something flexible and full of life.
We hope that this Milan exhibition will connect us with creators from around the world, leading to even more innovative ideas that can be realized through BASE TIMES kawaguchi’s technical expertise. Our goal is to create more compelling designs that enhance everyday life.

Metalworking technology, deeply rooted in Kawaguchi’s industry, is as essential as "air" and "sky." This chair design series embodies the outstanding skills of five metalworking companies, transforming them into visible and tangible forms through furniture.
Each chair reflects a unique expression:
